NordPCC Teacher Exchange: Strengthening International Collaboration in Patient-Centred Care
Cover picture: Representatives of the NordPCC partner universities gathered at Vilnius, Lithuania, for a teacher exchange meeting.
The NordPCC network celebrates ten years of international collaboration, bringing together nursing faculties from Finland, Iceland, Denmark, the Åland Islands, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The network aims to develop nursing education by focusing on patient-centered care and student well-being, while promoting the exchange of knowledge, expertise and teaching practices across the Nordic and Baltic countries.
In 2025, Novia University of Applied Sciences took over the coordination of the NordPCC network, which operates under the Nordlys program. In January 2025, the network applied for funding to organize an intensive course and teacher exchange. The application was successful, securing €37,000 to support international collaboration and the development of nursing education during 2026-2027.
In August 2026, representatives from the partner institutions gathered in Vilnius, Lithuania, to plan the content and structure of the upcoming intensive course. The course will take place in Latvia in March 2027 and will bring together 28 nursing students and paramedic students and seven lecturers from the participating institutions.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Professor Jekaterina Šteinmiller for organizing the teacher exchange visits and warmly hosting the network representatives in Vilnius. Her commitment and contribution to the collaboration are greatly appreciated by all partners.
During the meeting, Professor Šteinmiller also introduced the possibility of welcoming an additional university from Lithuania into the NordPCC network. We plan to include this new partner institution in the next application for the 2027–2028 period. Expanding the network will further strengthen international collaboration, promote the exchange of knowledge and good practices, and create new opportunities for nursing students and lecturers to learn from one another across the Nordic and Baltic countries.
Through lectures, collaborative learning activities and international exchange, the course will provide students and lecturers with opportunities to share experiences and explore different perspectives on self-care approaches and student well-being.
The course aims to strengthen students’ knowledge and understanding of self-care strategies that promote health and well-being throughout their studies. By focusing on practical approaches to self-care, participants will develop skills to manage stress, support their mental health and maintain a healthy balance between their studies and personal lives.
In addition, the course will explore how self-care strategies can be implemented within interdisciplinary teams, encouraging collaboration and promoting holistic approaches to health and well-being among future healthcare professionals.
The NordPCC teacher exchange highlights the value of long-term international partnerships in advancing nursing education, strengthening professional networks and supporting the development of future nurses and paramedics who are equipped to promote both their own well-being and high quality, patient-centered care.
